First National Bank and Trust Company donates $10,000 to local hospital

July 26, 2022

Whitehall, WI, July 26, 2022 - First National Bank and Trust Company is pleased to announced a $10,000 donation to the Gundersen Tri-County Memorial Foundation to assist the building of a new hospital in Whitehall, Wisconsin. The funds will be used for the current building capital campaign as well as supporting at-risk families with insurance needs.

Gundersen Tri-County Hospital and Clinics is an advanced rural medical center in Trempealeau County in beautiful west-central Wisconsin. The Tri-County Memorial Foundation, Inc., the fundraising arm of the hospital, provides opportunities for past patients, family, community members, organizations, staff and others to support the organization and rural community for healthcare.

The system has been providing healthcare to the communities for more than 100 years, now building toward the future for generations to come with the newest Whitehall location. The final Whitehall clinic construction is expected be completed by early fall 2023.

The Whitehall hospital campus is halfway between La Crosse and Eau Claire, Wisconsin, and is two hours from the Twin Cities, three hours from Madison, Wis., and five hours from Chicago, Illinois. The location provides a much needed community hub for medical services.

Doctor N.S. Simons and Dr. E.A. MacCornack were the Whitehall Community Hospital's first doctors. The pair did surgery in the Parker House, a residence on Whitehall's Dewey Street and even did surgery at patients' homes before the hospital was built in 1917 for $10,000. The hospital could hold 16 patients, and a $20,000 addition in 1924 made space for a total of 35 beds.

Today, Gundersen Tri-County offers a full range of rehabilitation services including physical, occupational, cardiac, speech-language and respiratory therapies in Whitehall. This new facility is expanding the capacity including a larger surgery department with additional staff needed for that service department with general and specialized surgeries; cardiology; oncology; OB/GYN; sleep studies and more.

“Thank you so much for your thoughtful and important contribution to our capital campaign mission. On behalf of everyone here at Gundersen Tri-County Hospital and Clinics and Tri-County Memorial Foundation we are so grateful,” said Marketing and Community Director of Tri-County Memorial Foundation, Susan Zimmerman. “We have been providing healthcare for more than 100 years and this gift will allow for additional medical services, increased community revitalization and further economic vitality for the area."
