First National Bank and Trust Company Donates $25,000 Toward The Vault

June 26, 2017

First National Bank and Trust Company has donated $25,000 toward the startup costs of The Vault in Clinton, Illinois.

The Vault exists to provide a safe and healthy environment for social, academic, and spiritual growth where teens can develop relationships with caring adults who foster a sense of value and purpose as well as model and coach a hard work ethic and community service values. First National Bank and Trust Company donated $25,000 to help with the first-year startup costs for the teen center as a part of their community reinvestment promise.

The idea of The Vault was conceived in 2003 as the founder discovered there were little to no after school activities around town for her elementary-aged children along with a scarcity of opportunities for teens. As her own children grew into their teen years, she saw even more clearly how vital it was to meet this need in her community.

The Vault is located in the heart of Clinton at 802 North Side Square and has been created as a community effort. The location has over 10,000 square feet of open space spanning two levels and will be designed, constructed and run side-by-side with the youth.

The main floor will feature a snack shop with a juke box, pinball, and game tables; a cozy hangout area with couches and a big screen TV for big game nights, movie nights, and retro gaming; a multipurpose area for special events such as karaoke, open mic nights, swing dancing, concerts, and inflatable sumo wrestling; a private room for free tutoring; a private room for free crisis support and resources; a semi-enclosed study pod with WIFI; and ping pong and pool tables

The spacious lower level will be mainly for higher energy activities such as dodgeball, laser tag, gaga ball, shuffleboard, ping-pong, foosball, air hockey, carpet ball, life-size chess and checkers, a massive art wall, and a prize vault.

“It has been exciting to see the out-pouring of community support,” said Michelle Witzke, Executive Director. “However, we do still have a way to go to make this a reality for teens and are looking for more support for The Vault vision.”
